I have been so proud of my big 6’3†Wide Receiver from Reynoldsburg HS in Reynoldsburg Ohio.  Big, Strong and Fast describes Mershawn Rice, and interestingly enough, joins another one of my top receivers, Kory Taylor 6’4†from Hilliard Bradley HS  with the Boilermakers. I am sure if I were coaching in the Big Ten West I would start now on how to try to defend both of these guys on the field at the same time, coming at you from the wide-out position on both sides. What a tandem this is going to be for head coach Jeff Brohm.
I remember when Mershawn got his first offer at the University Of Kentucky Friday Night Lights Camp, when he lined up across from the number one defensive back recruit out of Florida who was attempting to stop him from getting off the line. Mershawn calmly looked over at one of my QBs Will Phillis (now at Kent State) and smiled the biggest grin and gave him the signal for a fade. He took off for the end zone and that defensive back found himself laying on the turf in the middle of the 0 at the forty yard line after perfectly executing a quick release move I had just taught him.  Will Phillis let go with a 55 yard 2 ball that Mershawn caught leaving the ground and extending his hands, pinkies together, in the corner of the end zone directly over the back pylon. Yes, and if you want to know, he got both feet down in the end zone. This is what we talk about as catching the ball and getting paid for it on Sunday. I for one, would not be surprised, if both of these guys end up in the NFL after doing some serious damage to the Purdue Boilermakers opponents, for the next few years.
Look for Mershawn Rice  (another one of my 4 Star recruits) as he heads for stardom in this potent offense of Jeff Brohm’s at Purdue.
