In every young athlete’s life, there is a journey. Some are fairly easy and some are nearly impossible, but those that seem impossible are usually the ones that become tremendous stories or even house hold names in the end. If you don’t believe me on this, try looking up just 2 names and search their roads to success. 1. Curt Warner, All Pro and Hall of Fame QB for the St.Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals. 2.Baker Mayfield current QB for both the Cleveland Browns and now the Tamp Bay Buccaneers, had No HS offers, but formerly Texas Tech Red Raiders (lost his starting position after injury) transferred to the Oklahoma Sooners while being laughed at for doing so, became the starter there and the rest is history.
I can name one more to add to the list, Kaden Hines who could be the most accurate thrower I have ever had in my 23 years of teaching QBS and WRS and one of the best HS QBS I have had. I started to tell you about several of the 20 first team All-State QBS I have had but knew I would hear from anyone I left out so I will just mention 1 that wasn’t All-State and didn’t even have a Star rating. His name is Blake Horvath (listed currently in the top 10 QBS in all of college football and the QB for the 7-1 Navy Midshipmen.
For various reasons, none of which are very creditable, Kaden Hines played for three different High Schools in Central Ohio where he was never given the opportunity to show off his offensive skills, (don’t have time nor do I want to spend the time worrying about what could have been) He is right now one day after surgery on his shoulder which came out great and can’t wait to get going on his therapy.
I watched as he lit up the U of Toledo camp this summer completing over 85 % of his passes during one on ones against some excellent defensive backs. During one juncture he threw 8 straight TDS on his fades, and No, he did not have some favorite WR that he had thrown with for a lifetime so he had to judge speed of all the guys in the camp and after throwing about 45 minutes he had thrown 4 incomplete passes out of 40 some in the entire camp.
There is so much more I could tell you about this young man, including his Character, Leadership and Teammate strength and support and never letting his team down during all four years of playing varsity football, that we would run out of space on this site. I tell you all of this and Congratulate him on being the OCC Scholar Athlete of the year, because it would not surprise me if he became another household name as a QB if he continues his career. Adversity Breeds Greatness so keep this name in your mind for future review: KADEN HINES !! What a Talent !! Your admirer Coach Sink.
