If you enjoy watching clutch QB play and a guy having the time of his life playing this great game, we all love, you should have seen Blake Horvath, my outstanding Navy Senior Quarterback, Saturday against Temple. As I watched the entire game, it was mostly dominated by a well-prepared Temple team that wanted this victory badly. Only sparks of brilliance directed by Blake Horvath during the game kept The Midshipmen close enough to grab an occasional tie, otherwise, the game was all Temple.
The game started off with Navy scoring first, on a 4 play 79-yard drive in the first Quarter ending with a 50-yard pass from Horvath to Cody Howard. Navy 7 Temple 0 and it looked like Navy was going to take care of business. Not so fast. The Temple Owls took the game over in the second Quarter, tying the score, kicking a field goal and scoring a second TD to take a 17 to 7 lead at the half.
The third Quarter saw Blake run another 74-yard drive in 9 plays and scoring from the 2-yard line. Temple came right back to score another TD and make it 24 to 14. On to the 4th Quarter where Navy was able to score again with Tecza pushing the ball in the end zone and Navy’s outstanding Kicker put a field goal through the up rights from 48 yards to tie the game at 24.
Temple was not to be out done as they put together what looked to be the final drive of the game, a 75-yard 11 play drive that ended with 37 seconds left on the clock. Now, for everyone that thought the game was over and that was just about everyone, they didn’t take into consideration that BLAKE HORVATH was the Quarterback for Navy. Blake engineered an incredible 75-yard 5 play drive (yes with 37 seconds left) and closed the deal with a spectacular 51-yard run into the end zone. Hey, he is not done yet! the score is Navy 30 Temple 31. After a couple of time outs and much duress on both sidelines Navy’s head Coach did the right thing. Put the ball in Horvath’s hands again. Blake rolled out right and was within inches of being sacked, got loose and threw a perfect pass to Tecza for the 2 point conversion. NAVY 32 TEMPLE 31.
Blake’s stats for the game: 141 yards passing 1 TD, and 155 yards rushing 2 TDS.
NAVY’S undefeated thanks to a fabulous effort of the whole Navy Team but also to their top 8 in the US QUARTERBACK Blake Horvath,
GREAT JOB BLAKE!
