Mark Waid QB – The Football season Opens with BIG Victory

Three football players posing for a picture with their coach.

Mark Waid, my sensational 6’3†210 lbs Junior QB at Girard HS in Girard, Ohio started off the 2017 season just the way he should.  Going up against their arch rival, neighboring Niles HS, Mark lit them up. Throwing for 263 yards and 3 TDs and rushing for another 120 yards and 2 more TDs.  He was in charge of this game from the very first drive and never slowed down.  The first half was as long as most 3 quarters of a HS Football game as both teams were putting the ball in the air trying to get an advantage over the other but it was Mark and is refusal to lose that drove the Indians to a magnificent half time lead of 34 to 17.

There is something special about a young man with confidence and maturity to put his team on his back and will a victory over a team he had never beaten in HS and is their cross town Rival and was a very good football team last night.   It was 40 to 24 final when the gun went off andMark Waid had scored all but one of the TDs for Girard either throwing or running.

Marks favorite target last year and again last night was WR Michael Belic who caught over 1000 yards of Waid’s passes last year and started the season this year with a 170 yards  and 2 TDs against Niles last night. One in particular will be watched buy 100’s of coaches this year either on this site, on Mark’s highlight film or Michael’s.  It started with Mark dropping three step drop, looking off the defense and then closing up in the pocket and waiting for the perfect moment for Michael to step inside the safety and turn on the jets, BOOM, he let go with a 50 yard (2 Ball) and it was a tight spiral rocket  (that the Coach Sink boys throw), and put it on the outstretched fingers of Belic who caught it in full stride, and I mean FULL stride and took it to the house.  At that point it was Girard 28 Niles 14 and in my estimation it was the beginning of the end for Niles.   You could feel the difference in the game from that point on. Pictured above is also Anthony Bacus who contributed mightily on both sides of the ball and did an awesome job with covering one of Niles best receivers.

Athletic Director Nick Cochran, who was an outstanding QB in his day for YSU and runs an awesome program for the Girard Indians, was not completely happy last night but that is why he will continue to lead them in the right Direction in their winning ways.   I was very Happy for hard working Coach Peterson HC at Girard for starting the season in such a positive way and look forward to seeing what he does over the next weeks in the development of a really good football team in the Football rich NE Ohio region.

So proud of my Junior QB Mark Waid who was NE player of the year last year and look forward to seeing what he does in the state and in the country this year. I believe he has a chance to be one of the top QB in the country as his work ethic is above reproach and his will to win, second to none.  Congrats Mark – Coach Sink
