The Future, Holtzclaw and Healy go to Pitt

Had a fun day yesterday as we took off from Columbus area; Judah Holtzclaw my awesome 6’6†210 lbs Sophomore QB, Zeke Healy 5’10†190 lbs Sophomore LB, who is the 4th leading tackler in the State of Ohio in D1, Ray Holtzclaw (Judah’s Dad) and me, Coach Sink.  We left my house at 9:30 am so we had enough time to get to the U of Pittsburgh by the 1 pm appointment time for visiting the facilities and the game at 3:30 at Heinz Field.  We entered the gates which leads to the U of Pitt and the Pittsburgh Steelers football offices and got the Big time tour from our guide Parris. We also had the pleasant surprise to see Rickie Hyatt (the outstanding Junior Running Back/ Defensive Back from Westerville Central HS) and his parents there visiting as well.  It is always impressive for the kids to see that Pitt and the Steelers practice together on side by side football fields and all three were very impressed to see this.

Judah is listed as the # 23 Pro Style prospect in the Nation and the #2 in the State of Ohio so he has been getting invites all fall from the likes of Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Pitt, Kentucky, and Cincinnati just to name a few, but has chosen to be at home with his team mates every Sat to be in the film room and perform his duties as he should as the new young leader of Westerville Central HS Offense. So, this was his first chance to go looking at possible places to play 2 years from now. Zeke, who is listed also as the number one Sack leader in The State of Ohio for LBS in division 1 football, will be leading the Warhawks defense for the next 2 years’ as well as having a major role in the running game too.

I won’t bore you with all the details of the game however, Pitt, after trailing most of the game between 3 to 10 points, came roaring back under the direction of my good buddy, Shawn Watson OC, and tied it up with just over 2 minutes left 45 to 45.  Duke brought the ball down the field but Pitt got a sack on their QB with just under a minute left. Shawn does his magical play calling once again and has QB Kelly Pickett throw a 35 yard TD pass with just 5 seconds remaining.

The kick off to Duke ended in a Blue Devil disastrous safety so the final was Pitt 54 Duke 45.

Entertaining was the word for the game and Judah and Zeke headed to the locker room and Ray and I got to spend some time with another of my longtime friends Tim Salem TE coach for the Panthers and head recruiter for our area.   A great visit, and both Judah and Zeke were more than impressed with the possibilities of ending up in Pitt Uniforms.  I am very proud of these young guys with Big Time potential for a long career in football.
