I have rarely run an article on anybody who loses a game, as we are all about winning football on this site; however, the reason I am is twofold. first Daniel Cole, my 6’3″ Senior QB at Lima Bath HS in Lima, Ohio was playing his first game ever as a Quarterback, and he has only been a student with me for about 8 months. Secondly, his stats I am about to tell you, are among the best first game stats for any of my QBS in 26 years of coaching only QBS and WRS, and that includes 17 First Team ALL-STATE QBS in Ohio and at least 1 in 7 other states. So, when I say Daniel “Hit’s a Big Opening Night,” I mean it.
He was 15 for 26 and 381 Yards Passing with 5 TD passes. If that wasn’t enough, he also ran for 127 Yards and a TD Rushing and had 2 pics trying to make the comeback work. The Wildcats started in a hole being behind 28 to 7 in the first half and having a 28 to 14 deficit to overcome at the half. The final score was 54 to 43 with Indiana Lake HS (last years final four team in their division in the state) getting the victory.
Daniel had some great help from two brothers, Isaiah and Josiah Clark. Isaiah hauled in 6 receptions for 150 yards and 2 TDS and Josiah made 4 receptions for 102 yards and 2 TDS.
A stelar performance by Daniel Cole for his first game playing QB as he racked up a total of 508 yards and 6 TDS. The future looks bright for Lima Bath Football but another big challenge awaits this Friday as St. Mary’s comes to town to face the Wildcats at home.
