We (Coach Sink , Paul Kilzer, Judah Holtzclaw, Antoine Taylor) had a great time Coaching Greg Brookey’s Best of the Midwest Camp in Indianapolis last Sunday.  However, to arrive at the MVP’s in the Quarterback Division was no easy deal.  The Senior Division had several QBS that rose above the rest of the Field and as we watched and coached we finally brought the entire field of 38 QBS down to 4 young men that were good enough to be considered.   Greg Brookey came by and said to me, “Sink who do you have for the top honors?†and I replied, “We have it narrowed down to 4.â€Â Â Â  In Greg fashion he answered, “Not much time left, get it to 2 and no more.â€Â Â  I laughed and said, “Yes Sir !†

I immediately turned to all QBS and said, “ Take a knee, and give me these four guys, number 132, number 148, number 158, and number 160.  I then turned to the WR Coach and said give me your 4 best receivers in the camp, and the defensive Back Coach was standing behind me and already knew where I was going, and said â€I‘ve got my 4 best DB’S right hereâ€.   So I turned to the kids in those 3 positions and said, “Everybody else take a knee and let’s have an old fashion SHOOT OUT,†and a SHOOT OUT we had.

Judah Holtzclaw my 6’6†225 lbs. QB from Westerville Central and now Bishop Sycamore HS and  last year’s MVP and first year coach, stood right behind every throw of all four boys. We studied and  critiqued as each threw about 7 or 8 balls apiece and as we discussed each player we found it tuff, very tuff to eliminate 2.   Number 132 was Ben Hambleton 6’1 190 lbs. class of 2022 from Cincinnati Elder HS did not have the prettiest ball but was the most consistent in his ball placement and completions.  Number 148 was Aidan Pieper 6’2†195 lbs. class of 2022 and from Illinois, Nazareth Academy was enthusiastic and had a good deep ball but lacked a little consistency with throwing guys open and his timing of throwing the ball. Number 158 was a very impressive Sophomore and the only 2023 class guy in our top 6.  His name is Drew Van Fleet 6’5†185 lbs. from Bishop Chatard HS in Indiana and probably had the best technique throwing motion of all in the top 4 and  is a very promising young QB.  He just needed a little more power on the ball in tight situations but will gain all that with maturity and good coaching.   Number 160, Maximus Webster 6’2†230 lbs class of 2022 was the smoothest of all the guys as He never seemed to be bothered by the pressure of the shoot out and had a strong ball and could deliver it at the right time. Maximus is from Westfield, Indiana and plays for Westfield High School

The four Coaches got together and all agreed it would be Maximus Webster and Ben Hamilton as our Co MVPS of the great Best of the Midwest Camp in the Quarterback Division and I will say that all the QBS seemed to have a great time together competing hard and getting 100’s of throws in with awesome competitors in front of the top recruiting company’s in the US.

It was great fun for everyone, including me coaching this camp, I believe for my 10thtime.  Congrats to both MVP’S and the other 2 kids for and exciting close to an awesome Camp.
