Blake Horvath and the NAVY Midshipmen pulled off their 10th victory of the year by bringing down the Oklahoma Sooners in the Armed Forces Bowl by a score of 21 to 20. The first quarter wasn’t the best for our NAVY guys as Oklahoma owned it and took a commanding 14 to 0 lead. Then the Midshipmen defense took over and that was all the scoring the Sooners would do until 6 seconds left in the game.
Blake Horvath and the boys from Annapolis just steadily took charge of the game and by half time had cut the lead to 14 to 7 after a nice TD run by the always present fullback Tecza. In the 3rd and 4th quarters when the NAVY guys were in charge, Blake ran an Armed Forces Bowl and Navy record 95 YARDS from his own 5-yard line to pay dirt at the other end of the field. No one from Oklahoma could catch him until one of the safety’s, (who had the angle) tried to keep him out of the end zone but Blake dove and stretched his entire body and then reached out enough to put the ball over the goal line for the game tying TD at 14 to 14. Blake finished off the score with a 6 yard run in the 4th Quarter to put NAVY ahead to stay,
Not wanting to miss the importance of the awesome job NAVY’S defense did by completely shutting down Oklahoma’s offense, until they scored with 6 seconds left and failed on a 2 point conversion to ,make the final score NAVY 21 OKLA. 20. Colin Ramos, NAVY’S INCREDIBLE MIDDLE LINEBACKER had 9 solo tackles, Kyle Jacobs had 8, and Kenneth McShan had 7 plus the balance of the defensive unit and the special teams all did their jobs as well.
Blake Horvath ended the game with 155 yards rushing and 2 TDS and passed for 7 of 12 for 92 yards and a QB rating of 122.7. The receptions were made by Heidenreich, 2 for 22 yards and Kent, 1 catch for 32 yards.
It is no wonder that BLAKE HORVATH was chosen for MVP of the Armed forces Bowl, after just being named MVP of the famous ARMY- NAVY game on Dec. 14 th. He is on,e of the great athlete’s in the country playing our awesome game of football and in every way is our MVP for the US NAVAL ACADEMY MIDSHIPMEN. What a year, 10 and 3 and I for one can’t wait to see what the 2025 team looks like with Blake Horvath at the QB spot. I am so proud of what this outstanding student has accomplished, Coach Sink
