Surprised ? no !!  Not if you know Tyler Ernsberger.   My Junior QB 6’4†190 lbs. playing for Granville High School, Granville, Ohio, Friday directed his undefeated  Blue Aces to a Big Time victory over a very good Columbus DeSales team, 19 to 12.  What you don’t know was this was Tyler’s first varsity start.  Playing for the first time with an undefeated team in the second round of the state playoffs is not the hope of most young QBS in High School but then you don’t know Ernsberger like I do.  He is a near perfect student in the class roombut even more then that, He has prepared as well as anyone of my QBS could have prepared in the time he has had,  and was not only ready, he wasinviting it mentally and physically.
Tyler  had to replace a very good QB, Senior Carson Crouch after he went down the week before with a knee injury. By the way Carson is the youngest brother of one of my top QBS in the 2000’s Chayce Crouch who we had the privilege of coaching for three years and securing his offer to University of Illinois.  Ernsberger was calm and cool the week before as he protected a lead in the second half to secure the first round victory for HC Wesley Schroeder’s Granville team.  Sometimes starting and being “the man†all night long and being responsible to direct a victory over a very tuff team can be a much different situation.  Not for Tyler, Friday he was very comfortable even in warm up, and  he was ready to play and play he did !! Â
I spoke with him on the phone the night before the game and we reviewed all the defensive sets he knew would be coming up the next night.  Now I have had this conversation with some pretty famous QBS and believe me when I say he had all the right answers as he completely understood exact routes and plays that would defeat each one of those defensive sets. I really felt like I was talking to one of my good college QBS.  So nobody in our camp was surprised when Tyler Ernsberger went 12 of 16 and 103 yards passing and 2 TDS and 0 INTS and won the game
19 to 12.Â
Tyler throws a tight spiral with great velocity and has very good feet in the pocket, and we are anxious to see how the rest of the year plays out for this outstanding QB and his Granville Blue Aces team, but even more excited to see the further development of this Big Time QB for next year. Tyler Ernsberger is pictured throwing on the run above.
