Jaxon Gregory my awesome senior QB at Mt. Vernon HS, Mt Vernon Ohio, took his leadership role to new heights Friday. After a meeting with the coaches this past week about game planning, he said to me, I think we are going to put the ball in the air a little more this week.   Jaxon was excited and you can see why, he threw for a record 356 yards and 5 Touchdowns as his Yellow Jackets ran over Ohio Cardinal Conference rival Mansfield Madison 62-20. That was the first time in 4 years that Mt. Vernon has won it’s homecoming game.
Jaxon’s numbers were superb, going 12 of 13 a cool 92% completion average and no picks for a whopping 449.3 QB rating on the night.  Can’t do too much better than that!!!!  Coach Mike Kerr finally let the door open for one of the most accurate passers I have coached and that is saying something special.   Jaxon twice at two major camps last summer was named most accurate thrower in the camp so this is really not a surprise to me, but his new first year coach at Mt Vernon has now learned what happens when he turns Jaxon Gregory loose.  Jaxon said, “it is a good feeling knowing that coach Kerr has that much confidence in me now.â€
Gregory hit Kaden Daniels 5 times during the night for 155 yards and 2 of those TDS and also hit his speedster buddy Logan Tate for 3 more receptions and he scored on 2 of those. He got the ball 2 more times each to Ashton Fisher and Noah Muck and threw Will Small a TD in the first half to complete the record breaking night. Wyatt Gregory,  Jaxon’s younger Sophomore brother was up for the task of rushing with the ball for 6 attempts and 37 yards.  Keep in mind Jaxon Gregory only played in 3 Quarters of the game and when he sat down the score was 62 to 0.  I cannot wait to see Jaxonplay at the next level where it would not surprise me if he put up 350 yards or more per game on a regular basis.  Congratulations to my man Jaxon Gregory.
