Jaxon Gregory leads Yellowjackets past Newark 31-0

A football player in uniform with his helmet on.

Jaxon Gregory who is not blessed with the largest frame in the QB business, but takes every ounce God gave him and uses it to his advantage. Friday night, he took his team and put them on his back and  went to work to systematically carve up the Wildcats who beat them last year 21 to 20. This year was much different, playing in a run oriented offense that is always difficult for a QB especially one that last summer won the most accurate passer in 2 major camps, as Jaxon lit up the brand new coaching staff with the following stats.  He completed 12 passes out of 15 attempts for an amazing 80% completion percentage and turned those into 199 yards of passing and  2 TDs, then turned to his running game which was not suspected by the Newark Wildcats, and rushed for a beautiful 14 yard TD in the first half.

One of his sidekicks may be college bound as a WR is Logan Tate, a 4.4 or under speedster who rushed for 79 yards in 9 attempts and caught 5 for 5 ( You can’t do any better than that) passes for 22 yards.  The other sidekick who is just starting his HS career is none other than Jaxon’s brother, sophomore Wyatt Gregory, who put up some outstanding numbers as well.  Wyatt had 19 attempts running the ball for 74 yards and also scored one TD.   A great start to what will be an outstanding young running back for Mt. Vernon in the future. He is small but mighty and like all of those great running backs, is terribly allusive and hard to find behind those big lineman that love to block for a kid that can read the holes like Wyatt can.

A fabulous night for all three Sink weekly workout regulars, but tonight was for sure a Jaxon Gregory lead victory for the not so productive Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets in the past.   If the Jackets have turned the corner it is because they will trust their mighty senior QB and if they do, this will be the start of many wins.  Congrats to a long time favorite Sinkstudent.  Jaxon Gregory
