Ohio State Camp Very Rewarding

Saturday was the end of a very busy week for all the Sink Guys. The week started out with QB Mark Waid the outstanding Sophomore from Girard HS going to Purdue for their QB Camp and he lit ‘em up.  Josh Stewart, our excellent Junior QB from Hilliard Bradley HS in Hilliard Ohio went to Youngstown State and was accompanied by Todd Tony the Big tight end from Delaware HS, Delaware Ohio.   Josh had an excellent camp but we did not get to see much of Todd as we were with the QBs, but from all accounts he did well too.  Thursday it was on to Pitt, then a fast trip home and we left for Detroit and arrived at the Hotel about 10:30 pm.

Friday morning it was up early as we had a private work out just before the start of the Wayne State Camp at 9 am, for the coaching staffs of Iowa, Michigan State, Bowling Green, and Wayne State.  Josh Stewart was the QB, and threw rockets all morning, to Ashton Gilkey WR from Westerville Central, Daevon Anderson WR from Hilliard Bradley and the new star on the horizon, Lucas Pierce WR of Newark Catholic, in Newark, Ohio.  Then Camp started and my soon to be senior QB at Mt. Vernon HS in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Jaxon Gregory, absolutely had a fabulous day.  His 6’6†coach came over to me after the camp and said if I could, I would give him 4†of height because that is all he needs to be a top D1 QB.  Next up was the Toledo Camp with Ashton Gilkey and he made a great effort but was exhausted at the end of the camp as it was 10:30 pm before we headed to Columbus.

9 am Saturday morning we were at Ohio State with 963 other kids from all over the country.  Isaiah Healy, Josh Stewart and Jaxon Gregory were the QB’s in attendance and Todd Tony TE and Wyatt Gregory RB were also there.   Kory Taylor WR from Hilliard Bradly HS hung out for a little while with all of us.  All three QBs did a great job throughout the morning and Isaiah was the star in the running department where he ran a 4.5 40 yd on the new turf field so that equates to about a 4.45 on solid turf as told to me by a current Ohio State player, Jared Drake.  There were over 100 QBs at the camp and Ryan Day, QB coach at Ohio State asked just the top 9 QBs in the camp to come inside the indoor arena and throw to just the top receivers and against the top D-Backs in the entire camp.

Josh Stewart and Isaiah Healy were both selected in that group and so the competition began!!      There were two young men from Florida, one which I thought was the best under classmen in the camp (he was a sophomore), and one who was a 2018 and it ended up as a shootout between him and Isaiah Healy for the top 2 in the camp.  Now that being said, the top 5 included Josh Stewart as well.   Isaiah just had one of his best days ever competing and both of my guys showed they are D1 prospects.

I was like a proud Papa of all of my kids as they were tough competitors all day long.

I do have to mention that one of the QB coaches was none other than, Mike Tomzsak, the Ohio State and 17 year Pro QB who played with several teams but started for the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a fabulous career in the NFL.  He approached me after the morning session and said,†Sink, is that Healy kid one of yours?â€Â Â  I said,†yes† and he said,†I love that kid, he never stops running and competing and throws a rocket ball.â€Â  “Are there any others that are yours out here?† I said yes Josh Stewart  is right there pointing right behind him and Jaxon Gregory over there and he said wow you have the best throwers in the camp..   I of course said thanks, and felt it was a real compliment coming from him.

This coming week is just as busy as we head to Minnesota camp tomorrow and one of our fine new 2019 QBs Chris Kaminiski from South Lyon, Michigan is headed to Michigan State camp on Wednesday and Mark Waid is headed to W. Va. Camp on Thursday.  Friday and Saturday are still up for grabs and Josh Stewart heads out East for Fordham and Yale camps on Friday and Sunday.

What a WEEK !!!!!!   Fun times for all of our guys.
