Gavin Lyon and Westerville Central Keep Moving on in Playoffs

A woman and man are talking to the camera.

Quarterback Gavin Lyon and the Westerville Central Warhawks move a little closer to their goal of a state title. This game seemed pretty easy at the outset, but in trying to get all the players some playing time in the playoffs,  the game became closer than anticipated.

It took John Majestro’s Warhawks one play from scrimmage and it was 7 to 0, and then on the next series of plays Gavin and RB Bennie Snell went to work in combo with the fine receivers.  Gavin hit a few rocket throws that he is now throwing on a regular basis and Bennie kept dragging tacklers with him and then he took it the final 6 yards, on a sweep left, and Gavin threw a 2 pt conversion to make it 15 to 0 over Toledo Start and still had 9:23 left in the first Quarter.

The combo kept it up. Next drive culminated in the same results and now it is 22 to 6.   The Warhawks added a field goal and a beautiful Lyon to Snell throwback screen and now it is 32 to 12 with less than 4 minutes left in the half.  Coach Mo’s (Morrison) offense wasn’t quite done yet, as they needed to display the jet sweep to the tune of 57 yards to make the half time score Central 39, Start 12.

The final score was 49 to 30 and the Warhawks advance.

Gavin ended up with 268 yards passing with 19 completions for 27 attempts for 70%, 2 INTs and 30+  yards rushing with 1 TD passing  and a 2 pt conversion pass. The Black and Silver are on their way to Mansfield Saturday night to face Euclid High School from the Cleveland area.

Congratulations to my Hall of Fame buddy, John Majestro , and his excellent staff of young coaches, for as we all know, it is awesome to have a talented bunch of young athletes but without great coaching they never achieve this kind of success.  “Go Get EM Warhawks!!!!â€
